3.8.49 crash in looping in installed system

Hi @Thanatermesis and all guys.

I installed 3.8.49 with success in two of my three machines, (32 and 64 bit releases)

In third one (my 2007 Acer Aspire 5410, a 500 Celeron with 2GB RAM and SDD HDD) that ran 3.8.48 perfectly I tried to install 3.8.49.

Live system run OK both in 32 and 64 released but once installed at first reboot after take the USB iso off e16 crash while it's asking the sounds effects. It's impossible to finish the configuration as desktop crash in a infinite looping.

To verify that it wasn't a RAM issue I tried a new and clean install (before was an update from 3.8.48) but issues still there. The issue is the same at this machine in both 32 and 64 releases.

@Thanatermesis if you want I can give you a remotely access to this machine if it would help you to investigate that.

Greetings!

Is it a crash or a loop?
I have a machine with a broken soundcard and Elive seems to fall in a loop trying to configure the soundcard at startup. It's not an infinite loop but still a lot to click away.

If that is the case and to be rid of these pop-ups: Simply remove (or comment out) the "startup-sound" and "audio-fixes" in .e16/startup-applications.list

Hi Harm, how are you doing?

It's probably that you pointed, as the issue is as systems asks for an intro sound as first start of installed system.

In fact e16 logs out and sent to screen with my username, so I wrote my password, e16 restarts and one or two seconds later e16 logs out again, and so in an "infinite" way....

I'm fine thanks ..... all things considered.

You mean the very, very first start after installing?
By that, I mean that after install and reboot it tries to configure some stuff and (if successful) will reboot again (without user intervention) after removing the leftover installation scripts.

If so, then that is definitely something @Thanatermesis has to see to.

Yes, I mean very first installing, after the system has made it automatic reboot, and both 32 and 64 bit, that runs fine from the USB stick both ( I tested live system some hours at this computer without crash, and at live system sounds systems runs well too in both 32 and 64 live systems)....

Because elive startup launchers try to reconfigure it on desktop start... I have been searching for a machine with sound card issues to make tests on it, the sound in elive works in all the machines I tried, I know that something is happening in a few ones but i never was able to do tests on any of them. Can we do that, @triantares ? (btw, try to "apug" first and confirm that the issue is still there, because I did t a fix for the sound cards in the last weeks)

yes and no, we need to know what is happening with the issue in order to solve it, for everybody affected and for future updates

@maxinou after a crash, does the command "dmesg" tells anything? Im suspecting is the same issue as thunar... something related to xorg and intel cards  (in fact something that makes E27 crash too)

Yes we can do a remote access to see what is happening, but check the "dmesg" first, to see if there's a segfault in X or where

Note: you can access to a tty to login and verify that after a crash, with Ctrl+Alt+F1 and login on the console

I'll try dmesg tonight or tomorrow and I'll tells you what happen, I'm not at home but I'll come back tonight.

BTW, Thunar's issue is in another machine (HP Mini from 2012) that runs 32 bit release and has been never solved and the issue of this thread is into an Acer Aspire from 2007 that ran perfectly 64 bit and thunar and that hadn't any issue until 3.8.49 installed.

3.8.49 live system run perfectly in this Acer, so the issue came from something that happen between end of installation and first start....

P.s. Small off topic dedicated to @triantares

Actually is near Saint Nazaire for some days with another old 19th century ships into the Loira, nearby from Nantes

Nope, It's fixed now.
I'll see if I can find a machine that has a separate removable soundcard.
Even that wont be easy considering most have the sound-card in the mobo, these days..

Hi guys,
I'm sorry but no free time to make test, I'll do it this weekend and tell you what happens
