Can't connect to elive repo, when i ran sudo apt=get update it says connection time out.
Help im a linux noob.
Simply try again at a later moment....it happens.
No like, i have latest stable elive but when i try running sudo apt-get update i get connection time out from elive repo (repo_wheezy_deb-security_elivecd.org, repo_wheezy_deb-multimedia_elivecd.org, repo_wheezy_debian_elivecd.org)
There's the issue .... Stable (absolute misnomer IMO) is very, VERY old and outdated. It's based on Debian wheezy which isn't supported anymore.
There is an option to have those repos removed and base on archived versions of Debian Wheezy but hasn't been done on all older versions of Elive yet.
Frankly 'Stable' is curently no more than an exemplary version of Elive (E17) as it was a few decades ago.
If you want an Elive that's very much more adapted to current necessities: Get/download a 'Beta' 3.8.44 version (extremely stable in every sense) or ..... download the free Retrowave version (same stability but a superb theming) .
Or ..... Wait out the very imminent release of 'Elive 3.8.45 Edge' release that optionally includes the newest Elive Edge version of Enlightenment (currently E26) as well as, all the E16 goodies.
On a side note:
Thank you for taking the trouble to mark these shortcomings here on the forum. I'm sure there's a multitude of people who trip up on this issue and simply, silently move on to another distro.
If i install the 32 bits version of elive beta, can i make the ram limit to 4gb of ram insted of 3gb of ram or should i install the 64bits version? (i have 4gb of ram and cpu with 1 thread and 1 core)
The 32 bits version should see all the RAM and is absolutely the better option for a low spec machine like yours.
Ok thank you for your help =)
You can do it,
The 32 bit version used the PAE kernel which see's all the RAM, but this has been changed for the next version to be non-PAE because some old computers cannot boot in PAE mode, since the 32 bit version is for pretty old computers it should make them working.
So the non-PAE kernel only see a max of 3,5 GB, but since it perfectly works on any computer you can install a PAE kernel in your installed system, like:
~ ❯❯❯ api linux-image-6.11.6+bpo-686 linux-headers-6.11.6+bpo-686
Ok, thank you =)
