I tried duplicity in the past and faced a few strange issues, then my commands went to "full backups" instead, not sure which setting im using now but I was able to use it to backup some personal info from a git directory into one of my servers in an encrypted state
About > 2.0, sounds like you are using a very old version of Elive? because by default you should have a very updated version from backports installed by default (the pin/preference of backports was upgraded in some last isos), I suggest you to download a recent beta release and reinstall it with (using the upgrade mode it will keep your users and confs etc).
