Can anyone please help install from USB?

Can anyone please help installing from USB onto an M.2 SSD?

Here is my monitor:

~ >>> xrandr | grep '*'
   2560x1440 59.95 + 144.00* 120.00 99.95 84.98 23.97

Thanks!

Hi Firas, welcome to the Elive community.

what is the question? Install via USB is very depending on your system. If you'll get the first step (get the boot menu), the Installer will guide you though the installation itself.

  • Download the Elive image.
  • Write the4 Image to USB Stick, f.ex. with Etcher

Now it depends on your System ...
To start your computer from an USB stick, you might need to change the boot order. Different systems with different BIOS need different keys to be pressed during the boot.

  1. Shutdown the system
  2. Plug-in the USB stick
  3. Start the system
  4. If you’ll see the Elive installer, skip the rest of this chapter
  5. If you’ll don’t see the Elive installer, restart the system again.
  6. Here exists no ‘general answer’ for all systems, we have to try and error. During the boot, press every two seconds one of the following keys:
[F1], [F2], [F8], [F10], [F12], [Del] or [Esc] (See Appendix for further Information).
Sometimes the needed key is shown at the boot screen. On Lenovo Laptops it is the purple ‘ThinkVantage’ button.
  7. Maybe you’re going direct to the ‘Select a boot device’ part. Search for something like ‘USB-HDD’, ‘USB Mass Storage’ or ‘USB’ and the vendor name of your USB Stick.
  8. Sometimes you come to the ‘BIOS Setup’ part. Here you’re able to change the boot order in the Tab ‘Boot’. After you have changed the boot order, save the changes and restart the system.

Hint: If your system is not able to boot from USB, but have got a CD ROM drive, you can burn the iso with any CD burn application to a Compact Disc and also boot it. Maybe here you’ll also need to change the boot order (see point 6).

Use SSD. If possible, using a SSD hard drive is recommended. Even if the cheap SSD got much less storage capacity, than a common HDD, the speed boost will bring a whole new experience to legacy laptops and desktops.

these are good supported but on the beta versions, if you tried the stable version, use the beta instead  unfortunately the experience is very different than in the stable (not bad, but very different)
