E16, E24 Shortcuts

There is one thing i desperately need and do not get.
I've been a windows user for most of my life, so i'm used to open programs rapidly through windows/windows + r shortcut and then writing the name of the application. How do i enable such feature in E16 and E24? It's terrible having to click on the menu in plank / clicking on "run everything" everytime :sob:

Alt-esc. :coding:

But anyway - use e16keyedit for e16, and the built-in keyboard shortcut manager (in the e24 settings > input) for e24

What you need is "rofi" as application starter (even kupfer will do) and a shortcut to start that as "rofi -show drun".
For E16 see my tutorial and create the shortcut (using "eesh") as you'd like.

For E24 I'm not sure (I use an icon) but there's definitely an option to add a shortcut through settings, there too.

That's pretty ugly tbh :joy:

Thank you!

That's kupfer. It works.

Sorry, a few hotkeys listed on the hotkeys pdf were missing (like win + r), they are added now for the next build

you can also edit your ~/.e16/bindings.cfg file to add / change your own hotkeys

Hello!
I honestly think that ctrl + space should not be among the default shortcuts for the applications launcher. That's the default shortcut for auto completition in most IDEs!
This means that everytime some not vim user (i'm sorry @Thanatermesis i'm not ready to do the switch yet despite your awesome work with it... bad habits are hard to kill) does a new installation needs to remember to change the e16keyedit :frowning: And most of the times the reminder comes up when he presses control space to do some auto completition in VS/Colab and the application selection pops up!

note: many changes has been made on the installer, now the "previous desktop" is much more kept among upgrade-mode than was before

@stoppy98 yeah I was thinking too that ctrl + space could be used for other triggers, actually maybe only from IDEs (and that's why elivim doesn't has it), but the question will be: which other hotkey should be used for it otherwise? ctrl + space is a very fast and handy to use for a launcher

of course in the case of need (like yours) where somebody needs the ctrl + space for other things, he just needs to reconfigure the desktop hotkeys to change it to another one, and elive should show this option enough intuitive to the user (e16keyedit on e16, and new E has its own bindings)

on a fast search on internet, i think not much people are affected by this issue on ulauncher

How about Ctrl and Super_L (aka Win key) ?

That can even be hit with a single finger, on most keyboards. Downside is that Enlightenment doesn't allow for a Ctrl or Alt combo with Super_L. but we can always ask for that as a feature, :thinking"

On E16 I have 'Alt+Super_L' for a quick disable of the touchpad because my wife hates it and only uses the trackpoint on her Thinkpad.
For now I use 'Super_L+z' for that on E but I can imagine Germans would prefer 'Super_L + y' for that. :innocent:

I honestly love alt + esc, since it was pointed out to me in this thread earlier i got used to it and i actually like it ahah

I have used alt + space and win + space for other kind of triggers that requires a handy action too, pretty useful too, yes these can be options too

remembers:

  • alt + f2 : common "launcher" in some desktops
  • alt + esc : traditional launcher in E17+
