How to report bugs to Enlightenment

If you find a bug in the Enlightenment desktop it must be reported to Enlightenment and not Elive.

But first, is very important to verify that:

  • The bug is actually on Enlightenment and not in the Elive modifications of its Enlightenment
  • The bug is caused by Enlightenment and not the OS itself
  • You know the steps to reproduce the issue (in your report you must describe them so they can try it and be able to fix it easier)
  • Report all the details possible (the build date so that they can know which version you are using, etc), distro version (elive running over debian trixie, etc)

Enlightenment original or Elive modifications?

You can eventually install the package "enlightnement-vanilla" which is just an original, pure, and vanilla build of enlightenment, so you can verify that is caused & happening on it:

Run:

api enlightenment-vanilla

Then, press ctrl + alt + end to reload your enlightenment keeping your desktop, you are running now the original code.

Try to reproduce the bug to confirm that is happening there.

Note: after to finish to report the bug, you can install back the package enlightenment or enlightenment-pro following the same steps

How to report:

Enter in E .org git Issues which is where the issues are managed.

Create a new ticket and fill up all the information needed and helpful for them to fix it

Include the build date and the commit ID (the commit ID tells exactly what version/code are you running), which is very easy to get, see this example:

~ ❯❯❯ appo enlightenment-vanilla
enlightenment-vanilla:
  Installed: 0.27.0+202610100237.git66e083c6-13trixie58
  Candidate: 0.27.0+202610100237.git66e083c6-13trixie58
  Version table:
     0.27.0+202610100237.git66e083c6-13trixie58 1500
       1500 http://repo.trixie.elive.elivecd.org trixie/efl amd64 Packages
~ ❯❯❯

In "installed" (make sure it is in 'Installed'), you can see the date of build (20261010), and the commid ID which is 66e083c6. The date build and the commit ID is the only info you need to provide about the version for your description.

Important: only "enlightenment-vanilla" has valid commit IDs, the other enlightenment packages are different builds with commit IDs that will not match the original source code

Include a screenshot if needed, a video uploaded to youtube if is something that must be shown in a video, etc... take your guess, make it easy for the developers.

Finally, create the task and assign it to "raster" (main developer) so he will be notified, or to "Thanatermesis" or "triantares" if you want to have first a pre-confirmation of the report by them.
