Integrating support for HPOfficejet Pro (6970)

Hi, as I own a HP OfficeJetPro 6970 I would be interested in getting this to work.
The pre-installed package HPLIP is too old to recognize my printer (version 3.12.6-3.1)
The required package would be version 3.18.6. (see here: [HP Developer Portal | Installer Walkthrough])
I know that it would be possible to manually install the printer via downloading the driver software, unarchiving it and manually selecing the proper PPD file. This - as a workaround - would work so far for simple print jobs.
But to enable scanning I guess I need the HPLIP installation method.

Any idea?

run in a terminal:

apug

and open the downloaded .run file from your file-manager, double click on it
