As @Rebel450 said, we need a bit more info to help you.
One thing that helps me a LOT with mic issues is going to Elive Menu > Audio (or Sound) > Volume Controland from there find the tab Input Devices. Here you can tailor pulseaudio settings 
(You might see Show All Except Monitors at the bottom...a monitor is just in case you want to record your speaker output, you direct the application to record Monitor of _____ rather than ____. So Show All Except Monitors WON'T show the monitors. Useful if you don't want the clutter of two entries per sound card.)
sorry for bump...I just set my New option on this forum to be every single topic i havent seen so i'm going through every single one to lower the dozens (!!) of threads in my feed
