For what its worth:
/etc/X11/xorg.conf should mention | DefaultDepth 16" in the
section "Screen" and I would recommend to put a # (i.e comment out) before any line mentioning 24 or 32 Depth.....sometimes the Default does get overridden.
Try downloading TorBrowser (32 bit)and running that. It runs from its own folder and upgrades itself when necessary......on top, its a great [safe] tool for anonimous browsing.
