@triantares @yoda @Rebel450 any of you has a system setup with "windows" and another linux distro at the same time ? I would need a few results from the booted linux one
I have a configuration Like this
But it's my Main machine for Produktion
Not with Elive installed.
Could do in live Mode (?)
That would be that very same ideapad with the failing gpt disk.
I need results from the booted linux one, to know how it was installed "shared with windows", and in fact:
- does allows to select between windows and linux?
- what bootloader is using? or just plain mbr install?
I'm becoming to read documentation of uefi about how
windows make sure that no other oses can boot in their efi system, it looks like its so forced that our only possibility is to overwrite any "good implementation" and use a "forced" one, how much difficult are things -thanks- to windowshit !
virus detected, name: windows10, delete?
Confirm.
Better for the rest of us.
Grub2 can boot all except hfs on this machine, but offer it too
Win has to be installed First
Then Grub
The Common Problem here is
That Won10 never really shutdown
It Just hybernates, the Disk is therefore in "Frozen" !!!
Then you cant install another os!
Fortunately there are workarounds for this issue.
But for an average User on a newer machine it can become quickly a big Challenge.
nope, in efi, the windows structure "makes sure" that stills boot windows and no place for other options (even if efi was designed to allow more oses)
Imo its bios related, what you say
UEFI is the (better) replacement of the traditional bios, but windows monopolize it with its shit
I can do a Test tomorrow on optiplex 755 with dual Xeon 311
If it IS helpful -
ONTO THE SAME DISK -
or secondary?
(I doubt this older pc has uefi capatility)
Well, i dont know what you can test actually, im now swimming around all the windows shit to see what are the possible options that we can use
Now simply trying to make boot a vbox with win10 and elive installed
Try Mint 18 Ci or Xfce (xenial Base) First,
they are usually running alongside with the ms crab
afterwards Elive then,
better for testing, I guess...
AND ?
btw
tomorrow I can do Elive stuff between
9 - 12am the rest of the day am booked
Conversation I could do already from 6:30
5:49 AM
The installer now supports a correct install of the bootloader into the EFI partition instead of the traditional MBR when it is detected that should use this option, this also supports a better compatibility with other OS's installed (including winpoop )
Also, the new ISOs of Elive boots in UEFI mode too, you don't need to set your bios in legacy mode anymore (secureboot is not supported, and probably will not be)
Stills a WIP, next:
- automated partitioning should use GPT for 64bit systems + EFI partition
- add checkers to verify the correct disk structure if the user parted the disk himself
Note: to use these features is also required a build of 3.7.2 with uefi boot support
was already wondering about that
- I thought that it would be a kind of a "Enlightenment feature"
! partitioning MUST use GPT !
this will avoid issues with Win installed on same sytem
Then we do with EFI,
there is no need for UEFI (as long you are not looking for trouble)
for encryption - if ! really needed - there are still other opportunities.
It does offer both as well as the ubuntu allready installed.
On sda (gpt) I'm not sure where/how but seeing as the btrfs partition is flagged "boot" and "esp" I suspect in the small partition also flagged "esp" .
Booting from /dev/sdb (msdos) allows same choices and grub is installed in MBR.
I have to reinstall one of my laptop on win 7 ( for my son ) and elive
So the timing is perfect
Will let you know how it goes
I Will enable EFI, disable legacy mode
