3.7.0 betatesting experiences

@Thanatermesis I really like ELive E16 on my little HP Laptop (32 ssd / 2 gig ram).
Works really well ( speed ok). It's sure I can't use tons of apps at the same time for terminal, internet etc it does the job and Elive 3.7.0 e16 is giving a 2nd live to that laptop...

I Just need to make my volume and luminosity key working and I think I will start using it again :smiley14:

You can't? yes you can! tons at the same time

hotkeys for volume not works?
for brightness, if they worked on live will work for the next build

You just suckered yourself into " etrans". :mwahaha:

Or the Elive-alpha way: "apug" followed by "elive-skel uograde .e16" and restart e16. :applause:

Sure will do, but information is neccessary, no ?

 thx!
(but I was talking 'bout the installer, btw)

so you have no way to boot this install after you tried to install it again ?

This is a "feature", in fact

more exactly: if the root password has been previously inserted (like for encryption), this field automatically fills with the same password, if you see "yourpass" its ok, but if you see "*******" you may think "wtf is that?", and then you change it to another (or same) thing, this could lead to users having 2 different passwords on the system, and I have noticed that novice users are very confused having a "root" and "user" different passwords, they reports "my password not works"

@jfbourdeau ^ explanation of why the password is shown

fixed on 3.7.1 too

yes, send me an username and password to use and i will enable you an eltrans account

@triantares in one of your installs:

grub-install: warning: this GPT partition label contains no BIOS Boot Partition; embedding won't be possible.
grub-install: warning: Embedding is not possible. GRUB can only be installed in this setup by using blocklists. However, blocklists are UNRELIABLE and their use is discouraged..

actually GPT type of partitions are not much tested, it needs to be better integrated in the installer (and should be default for auto partitioning too)

looking at this message, question is, did you added a boot partition ?

no, was even playing around with the fstab file for a while, but then I installed new again,
this dam machine don't want to ...

Yes, that was still there from previous installs and the Windows.

@triantares i don't know much about gpt -yet- (will need to read on that for the installer), but looks like a gpt structure needs a "bios partition" ? i dont know what is that... maybe a special partition for that gpt disks can boot?

yes, looks like, i need to read these things: DiskSpace - Community Help Wiki

seems like is needed when is not installing using EFI, so instead of this "bios partition", the correct should to be install (creating an) efi partition, which is not yet included in the installer  (need to work on that)

note: but since you partitioned it yourself @triantares (if im not wrong), i assume that this partition should be created from you, so that grub will install correctly (see the previous link)

Ehm that particular note-book (yoga ideapad) has seen a lot of linux installs but as I added a second SSD I never had the need to remove the windows there. The gpt partitions have always been there and I never touched them. .. as Ubuntu used (and needed) them too.
But if I recall correctly there's a thing about having a small empty partition ( a few Mb) at the beginning of the disk. I suspect it's that.
Alas I don't have access to that particular laptop ATM, I'm on my other ship now. I installed that laptop on sunday evening and used triade@zeelandnet.nl as mail address during the install, so maybe you recieved that.

I'll share " parted" output tomorrow.

yep, that link explains the correct extra partition you need, so the "bios partition" for mbr (actual elive installer behaviour) or the efi partition (more correct but not yet included in the installer) - well, this "installer" comments are not correct since you partitioned it yourself (so you should add this yourself the next time then)
